Garden Club
Miss Malzard (Rm 3) has started a Garden club with the Senior children
They will be completing some small garden and cooking projects around the school.
If you (or any friends and family) have any spare fruit or veges that you don't eat, please feel free to bring them into school and our garden club will use them.
There is a charity called 'Community Fruit Harvesting' who go to your house and pick any fruit you do not want and then donate it to charity. Here is the link to their website if you want to find out more http://www.pickfruit.co.nz/index.php

Poetry books

Fidget spinners
A reminder that these are toys and we ask that these are not brought to school unless a prior arrangement has been made with the class teacher
Reading books and Library books
Please could reading books be brought back EVERY day - if you have any reading books hiding at home from previous weeks, please could they come back too!
Our library day is Friday. Please remind your child about having their library book in their bookbag ready to return to the library, then they’ll be able to bring a new one home to share with you.
Triple P - Positive Parenting Programme
Verona is running a Triple P discussion group on the 1st June from 10am to 12.30 on Managing Fighting and Aggression
Any parents interested in attending need to register with Verona via email veronar@hcc.co.nz as soon as possible.
Absences
In NZ students are expected to attend school daily, this is a legal requirement. Parents are asked to telephone the school office or report it on the HPS School app by 9am if their child will be absent. HPS operates an answerphone service at all times to make this process easy for families.  When leaving a message we need to know your child’s first name, last name, room number and the reason for their absence.  In the case of an absence due to medical reasons, please supply a medical certificate to the school office if your child has been absent for 3 days or longer.
Appointments with teachers
Teachers are most happy to talk to you after school or from 8.30 - 8.50am
If you feel you need to discuss something in depth with your child’s class teacher, please feel free to make an appointment.
Support the PFA
The PTA will be selling chocolates, Yum! Chocolates will be given out to students next Friday 9 June (Wk 6) A box of 36 chocolates will go out with the eldest and only.
Families will have two weekends to sell. Payments and unsold chocolates to be returned to school on or before Monday 19th June.
We thank our families in advance for their support :)
Curriculum Evening
HPS is hosting a “How you can help at home” evening in the school hall on Thursday, June 15th from 6pm - 7pm.  The hall be set up with Literacy and Maths stations to provide a range of ways you can support your child at home with their learning.
Childcare is available in the library for HPS students if required.
School Chaplain
The  Board approve the appointment of a School Chaplain whose purpose is to listen to children who need someone to talk to other than their teacher. The Chaplain will be Police vetted and be trained as a Chaplain.
The Chaplain does not replace the important role of teacher or parent but enables children to offload.
The Chaplain reports to the Principal only if she has a concern for the safety  of the child.
If a child chooses to use this service, they will bring home a note from the Chaplain, indicating this.
